So June has already kicked off in spectacular fashion but before I start celebrating June, I need to tip my hat to May.  It was an outstanding month filled with some of the most spectacular moments I have had so far as a coach.

As usual, I have many photos to commemorate the month and most of them were around one very special weekend.  In a twist of fate that I couldn’t avoid, the Upper Dublin Triathlon and the Girls on the Run 5K were scheduled on the same day.  I had many of my athletes, current and past, participating in the Upper Dublin triathlon and it was Karen’s first tri EVER.  Meanwhile, Olivia had been preparing for 12 weeks for her 5K.  So the best I could do was get myself to the beginning of the triathlon, see everyone off and then scurry over to the starting line of the 5K, missing the ending of the triathlon but celebrating Olivia’s and her run.

But the most wonderful thing has been happening over the last year or so. I have been able to work with and coach an amazing group of women in my WAVES team.  This was not the first time I have put out an APB to my WAVES to help out other members during training and now racing.  And my call for support was answered.  Val and Angie were there to make sure Karen was supported all race long – along with Ann, Anne and Holly who also raced.  I couldn’t be there for the end, but I knew she was in good hands.

And not to get too sentimental, or think too highly of myself, but it was this weekend where I was truly touched by the impact of my coaching.  When I saw new heights reached, goals conquered and a community of support come together, it made me feel like I was on the right path; even more sure of my pursuits as an endurance sports coach.  From that, I have a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to inspire and support all my current amazing athletes and all the athletes still to come.
